Beyond the Crisis

Beyond the Crisis is our education and healthcare improvement programme.

We work with healthcare organisations, schools and employers to improve understanding of sickle cell disease through evidence-based education, lived experience and practical resources.

By helping organisations better understand the realities of living with sickle cell, we aim to create more informed, compassionate and inclusive environments for everyone affected by the condition.

Areas of Focus

  • Healthcare

Supporting healthcare professionals to deliver more compassionate, evidence-based sickle cell care.

Through clinical resources, education, patient insight and future training programmes, we aim to bridge the gap between national guidance and everyday practice.

Why It Matters

Despite improvements in treatment, many people living with sickle cell continue to experience significant barriers across healthcare, education and employment.

Research has highlighted ongoing challenges including delayed pain relief, limited awareness of the condition, inconsistent support and misconceptions that can affect people's experiences and opportunities.

While improving systems takes time, better understanding can begin today.

Whether you're a healthcare professional, teacher, employer or colleague, the way you respond to someone living with sickle cell can have a lasting impact.

Everything we develop is built around four principles:

Evidence-Based

Grounded in current guidance, research and best practice.

Lived Experience

Shaped by the voices of people living with sickle cell.

Practical

Focused on real-world actions organisations can take immediately.

Collaborative

Developed alongside healthcare professionals, educators, employers and the wider sickle cell community.
